Finding a therapist can be anxiety-provoking.

It was hard enough to decide to seek help because you feel like you should be able to figure this out on your own. But you had a moment that was the last straw and you hopped online. Maybe you started on one of those directories with hundreds of therapists listed and got overwhelmed looking at the profiles full of psychobabble and acronyms you didn’t understand. How do you choose the right person?

Maybe you’ve been in therapy before and you felt like the therapist just didn’t ‘get’ you, or they listened and nodded while you vented but they didn’t offer any real solutions. Or maybe this is your first time in therapy and you’re nervous to tell a complete stranger all your personal business. I get it.

Finding the right therapist is kind of like datingthere’s got to be a connection.

Am I your person?

Hi, I’m Alyssa. [I should tell you before we meet that although my name is spelled A-l-y-s-s-a, it’s pronounced “Alicia.” Think Alicia Keys.] I’m a Sacramento native.

I want to live in a world where women (and men, and non-binary folks) spend less time beating themselves up and trying to shrink, and more time sharing their gifts, speaking their minds, and making this planet a better place. So I’ve made it my mission to help people live more authentic, fulfilling lives.

I do my best work with those who long to feel at peace but are paralyzed by anxiety and self-doubt, and feeling overwhelmed. I support my clients in dismantling the beliefs that keep them scared and small, so they can approach whatever life throws their way with confidence and ease.

What It’s Like to Work with Me

People have described me as an old soul with a wise, calming presence. It’s my hope that the space I hold for you, whether in my Midtown Sacramento office or online, serves as a little oasis of calm amidst the turbulence of your daily life.

I know from 13 fulfilling years as a therapist and from following my own path to wellness that the biggest thing standing in your way is that worried, self-critical voice inside your head. So I nurture self-compassion. I’ll be your biggest supporter until you can be your biggest supporter. My style as a therapist is gentle, but I won’t hesitate to be direct and straightforward with you when it feels like you’re not being honest with yourself. I challenge clients, from a loving place, to help them get unstuck and grow.

Along the journey, I’ll help you uncover your strengths and lean into your natural wisdom, until you feel confident to do the rest of the healing on your own. I don’t foster dependency; therapy is an exquisite tool, but it shouldn’t last forever.
